We had been talking about relocating for years. There was a burning desire to live somewhere more quiet, with new opportunities, less stress and a lot of adventure. We wouldn't have forgiven ourselves if we looked back, knowing we could have done it, and didn't. After all - the world is big, the world is open, and all you have to do is just go out there and get it.
So we packed our whole lives in a brave move. We sold most of it at a crazy yard sale that lasted about three days, and the little that remained we packed in the boxes that we put in our parents' boxes - and drove with a few suitcases to the unknown horizon, to what he would bring with him, believing that we as we were - we would get along. There's something hard about deciding when doing it. Mainly because we have had already built something in Israel, you know? We’ve gathered so much and so many projects, not to mention family and friends. So, suddenly leave everything and build a new life from scratch... Until you really do it, you have no idea what relocation really is.
After selling our whole life, we did a quick wedding in New York, and bought a one-way ticket to Portugal.
At first, the goal was to make our honeymoon in Portugal, but after encountering the spectacular landscapes, the warm sun, the many entrepreneurial opportunities and the amazing people in this place, we asked what could be wrong with it? After all, that was quite what we're looking for. Then, why not here?
At the end of the wanderings, the decision was made to stay in Porto where we fell so in love with.
Acclimatization was no easy task. Suddenly, little by little after we finished our trip and euphoria, we realized that we needed to start creating a life for us here. So how do we find an apartment? What about work? And friends? Moving to a foreign country creates a lot of difficulties, and all at once you have to build yourself a circle of friends from scratch, be with each other 24/7, support, and rebuild yourself in a country where you are a stranger. Apart from that, there was a strong need for sharing, and that's why we created the blog of Vital and Omer - Live Abroad Portugal.
Since then, we have already initiated and created large and small real estate projects, we have accompanied dozens of investors in diverse acquisitions throughout Portugal, and we are here to stay and continue to create interesting projects throughout this amazing country.
On this site, you can catch up on our relocation experiences, where we share with you both our personal stories as well as important articles and guides that can help you get through the relocation process in the best possible way, or streamline your next real estate purchase in Portugal :)
